When we celebrate women in genre fiction, we cannot leave out the incredible women who create, invent and experiment with the science and technology many of us write about and build upon.
Meet Grace Hopper (Dec. 1906-Jan. 1992). A US Navy Admiral and one of the first computer programmers, we owe Grace Hopper a debt of gratitude for breaking boundaries for women in STEM fields. Her philosophy applies to writing: take your ideas and run with them. The only way to break new ground is to take risks.
In honor of “Amazing Grace” Hopper’s birthday, what risks will you take in your writing this week? What new ground will you break? What ship will you sail?
A ship in port is safe; but that is not what ships are built for. Sail out to sea and do new things. — Grace Hopper
