National Short Story Week starts November 17th to the 23rd in the UK with an aim to promote short stories, both the stories and the authors.
In honor of the short story, I’m printing the classic Shirley Jackson’s, The Lottery in duplicate and leaving anonymous copies on my fellow cohorts work desks with glorious post-it notes exhorting the benefits of reading and why not reading something short for we all know out attention spans aren’t the best.
For those who like a little dark humor mixed with some off language, Jacob Tomsky will send you a classic Short Story every Thursday to your email. He rocks.
As Jacob says, “Simply email firstname.lastname@example.org to join”. His mission is to give you the best he can find every Thursday without fail, literally without fail.
Female Speculative Fiction writers have skyrocketed to the top of the short story genre with award winner entries.
Check these ladies out:
- Rachel Swirsky with If You Were a Dinosaur, My Love
- Aliette de Bodard with Immersion
- Kij Johnson with Ponies and Spar
Each story a quick little jaunt away, it takes just a moment of time, to stop, breath and read something that might just make your day.
